. Effect of Lime _Application on Heavy Metals Uptake by Some Plants Grown on Sludge - Treated Soils

Amira Ahmed .Mohamed El-Araby;

Abstract

Agricultural use of sewage sludge has been increased as a mean of disposal and beneficial reuse . However, elevated concentrations of heavy metals on land receiving sludge are of public concern . The amount of metals taken up by the plants depends on the soil content of the metal , but is strongly influenced by other factors such as plant species , soil parameters (pH in particular), and the kind of metal itself.
The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of lime in reducing heavy metals uptake (zinc, cadmium, copper, nickel) by soybean and com grown in sludge-treated soils (clay and sandy soils ) . The study of the residual effect of lime and sludge on heavy metals uptake by fababean grown in rotation with soybean and com was maintained without repeating application of sludge and lime.
