THE EFFECT OF SOME NON-STEROIDAL ANTI-INFLAMMATORY DRUGS ON EXPERIMENTALLY INDUCED UVEITIS IN RABBITS
Alaa-Eldin Sayed Abdel-Razik;
Abstract
In this study, we compared the local anti-inflammatory effect of non-selective COX inhibitor, diclofenac Na (voltaren) with the selective COX-2 inhibitor, nimesulide on the ocular inflammatory reaction of anterior uveitis model induced in albino rabbits using complete Freund's adjuvant. The course of the inflammatory reaction was followed clinically, biochemically and histopathologically. From the present study, it may be concluded that, both diclofenac Na and nimesulide have comparable effect in controlling anterior uveitis. However, nimesulide being a selective COX-2 inhibitor has the advantage of preserving normal homeostasis and considered safer in asthmatics. Such finding with nimesulide eye drops needs further clinical studies.
