Abstract

Language is considered a means of thinking and of transferring culture from one generation and one nation to another. It is also a means of communication among mankind. Hence, many countries give great interest to teaching languages other than the native language to its citizens.

We live in an age of technology and information where facts change rapidly. This requires giving more care for learning foreign languages especially the English language which is considered an international language for communication among people.

•Oxford (1990:14) defines the word "Communication" as a mutual exchange between two or more people confirming co-operation and understanding among them. Communication also depends on the interaction which is a dynamic process that depends on the negotiation of meaning between two or more persons.

Using foreign languages in communication is considered an essential aim of the Egyptian educational system and the Ministry of Education puts communication as one of the most important objectives of teaching the English language for students at different educational stages (Ministerial Decree 1994). It is important, thus, to direct attention to developing the
3tudents' communicative skills in order to be able to
interact in the target language in various situations and to perform different jobs that demand using. English.
