PHYSIOLOGICAL AND BIOCHEMICAL STUDIES ON CONJUNCTIVITIS CAUSED BY MICROORGANISMS

Sherin M. Ashraf Sharaf;

Abstract

In this study 214 cases of conjunctivitis as well as fifty normal/ control

conjunctiva were examined both epidemiologically and microbiologicall. Some

physiological properties of the isolated microorganisms such as the ability to

produce enzymes were also studied. The in vitro sensitivity of conj'!illctivitis

The following important points have been achieved: -

from,

April 1998 to May 1999, and the highest count was recorded durin'g March

1998 to October 1998 and April 1999.

2- The highest frequencies of infection cases were during spring and summer

which was recorded in high frequency during summer then spring. I

3- The most susceptible persons to conjunctivitis were adults over 21! years age

(55.1% of total cases).

4- Females were more affected than males (57.1% versus 42.9% of total

conjunctivitis). I
