Abstract

ANP is a circulating cardiac honnone. It has diuretic, natriuretic and vasorelaxant properties.

Aldosterone IS a maJor circulating mineralocorticoid honnone. Its mam function is renal tubular sodiwn reabsorption. Therefore both ANP and aldosterone act with each other as a balanced regulating system allowing volume and pressure homeostasis by the body.

This study was conducted upon 60 neonates. Patients were classified into three groups, the septic group (20 neonates), the jaundiced group (20 neonates) and the control group including 20 healthy neonates.

All the previous groups were subdivided into preterms and full terms according to modified Ballard 1991.
