Comparative Study Between Bilaym•Polypropylene (Prolene) Mesh Repair and Single Layea•(Lichtenstein) Repair in the Management of Type III Inguinal Hernia

Abstract

The aim of this work was to evaluate the bilayer patch device (PHS) used in Gilbert's repair and compare it with single-layer tension !Tee hernioplasty (Lichtenstein repair), in the management of type l1l inguinal hernia according to Nyhus classification.

The study was can•ied out on 40 randomly chosen male patients with inguinal hernia. The patients were equally divided into 2 groups: Group J: Gilbert's repair

Group ll: Lichtenstein repair

Complete history was taken fi•om all patients. The• patients were examined for chest, heart and abdominal diseases, local hernia examination was done to assess site, type classification of the hernia.

Routii1e laboratory work up was done pre-operatively and leucocytic count was done postoperatively.

Both groups of patients were followed post operatively for 1 year divided into 3 phases.
