Evaluation of Renal Functions and Determination of Some Electrolytes in Acute Typhoid Fever

Abstract


Fifty eight individuals were studied . They included 31 typhoid cases, 14 non- typhoidal cases as diseased controls and
13 normal persons as normal controls .


All the cases and controls were subjected to determination of kidney function tests and some electrolytes.


There was no significant change in kidney function tests between acute typhoid cases and either normal or diseased controls who did not receive any fluid therapy .


There was a significant decrease in serum sodium in acute typhoid cases who did not receive fluid therapy when compared to normal controls.


There was no significant difference in semm pottassium in acute typhoid cases who did not receive fluid therapy and either normal or diseased controls.


There was a significant decrease in serum calcium in acute typhoid cases who did not receive fluid therapy
