Endovenous Laser Ablation of Short Saphenous Varicose Vein
Shady Samy Ibrahim Abdelghafar Eldamaty;
Abstract
Varicose veins is an extremely common medical condition that has a significant impact on an individual’s health and the health care system varies from simple telangiectases (spider veins) and reticular veins, to typical varicose veins with manifestations such as skin pigmentation, venous eczema, lipodermatosclerosis and ulcers.
Venous duplex imaging has become the favored technique for evaluation of varicose vein to confirm the diagnosis and assess its etiology examination combines both imaging of the deep and superficial veins also prescence of reflux or obstruction.
Management of short saphenous varicose vein varies from non-surgical treatment to surgical treatment and recently minimally invasive techniques.
Endovenous laser treatment of the SSV with concomitant treatment of the incompetent tributaries seems to be a very good alternative to traditional surgery. Early and midterm results are excellent.
Conclusion
EVLT of the SSV is feasible and safe, and has excellent clinical outcomes in combination with concomitant therapies where indicated. The incidence of nerve injury is acceptably low and not clinically significant.
The incidence of DVT was not negligible but studies looking specifically at the success rate and risks associated with laser ablation of the SSV have included only small numbers of patients,
