IMMUNOHISTOCHEMICAL ALTERATIONS OF THE SMALL PENILE ARTERIES IN .IMPOTENT PATIENTS
Alladine Mokhtar Mohamed El-Tohamy;
Abstract
The aim of this work is to study the endothelial structural changes in the small penile arteries in etectile failure.
The study included 20 organically impotent men presented to
Kasr El-Aini Andrology Clinic.
For all patients the following were done :
- History taking .
- Examination of genetalia.
- General examination.
- Biothesiometry test.
- Papaverine +phentolamine test.
Those who showed negative response to papaverine +phentolamine test underwent duplex, rigiscan and cevemosometry examination.
Those patients who were indicated for the penile prosthesis implantation, an open biopsy was taken from the cavernous tissue of the mid shaft of the penis. Also, 5 biopsies from the same structure were obtained from an uninvolved site in 5 patients of the same age group who underwent penectomy for carcinoma. These biopsies were subjected to fixation, dehydration, clearing and paraffin embedding. Sections were stained by the following histological and histochemical techniques :
Haematoxylin and Eosin stain (for general architecture).
P.A.S (periodic acid schiff) stain (to detect integrity of basement •
membrane).
P.A.P (peroxidase I antiperoxidase) method (to detect endothelial lining).
