STUDIES ON CORN BREEDING
MOHAMED HASSAN ALY IBRAHIM;
Abstract
The main objectives of the present investigation were:
1) Test and evaluation 35 inbred lines by four testers viz (S.C.lO, S.C.l3, S.C.l24 as a superiority hybrids, having highly general combining ability and followed by T.W.C. Pio.3057 having medium general combining ability) and thel40 test crosses resulting from top crosses experiment.
2) Determine the type of gene action for lines, testers and their crosses.
3) Choosing the five lines having the highest G.C.A. as Set-
1, Five lines having the lowest G.C.A as Set-2 and make a diallel cross between each group alone.
4) Evaluation the 20 F1's crosses resulting from the two Sets plus three single crosses as a check under different environmental conditions; two densities (20000 and
30000 plants/fad.), two levels of nitrogen fertilization
(100 and 140 kg N./fad.).
5) Estimate of general and specific combining ability and their interaction with environmental condition tor Set-!, Set-2 crosses.
6) Determine the optimum environmental condition (non stress) suitable to the genetic variance to exhibited high grain yield and other desired plant characters.
