ANALYSIS AND DESIGN OF TELEMETRY SYSTEM FOR REMOTE SENSING SPACECRAFT

Aladin Saad Abdelaziz;

Abstract

Spacecraft telemetry Module plays an important role in satellite health monitoring a_fter separation from launch vehicle. It collects the housekeeping data
from all spacecraft subsystems to be on-board processed or to pass this data to the
• ground segment for subsequent processing, displaying, recording, and analyzing,

proper telemetry design support the satellite mission for long life with good performance.
This thesis has the aim to give a solution affording complete design of telemetry module for Low Earth Orbit Remote Sensing spacecraft. This is to be attained through a theoretical and practical study for the design of a telemetry module for Low Earth Orbit Remote Sensing spacecraft along with its ground processmg.
This work is achieved firstly, by investigating the parameters which will affect the
• design of the telemetry module for remote sensing spacecraft and secondly, by investigating the sources of telemetry data on the spacecraft and its processing taking into consideration the recommendations of CCSDS (Consultative

Committee for Space Data Systems) for the telemetry packet format, and how this data can be retrieved in the flight control center; hence telemetry module architecture is selected.
Then, the telemetry module architecture is further developed. A functional block

diagram is presented and implemented by electronic circuits whose schematics are
• generated using (ORCAD.9.2) software package.
A case study is presented for a telemetry module design including electronic circuits' simulations and calculations of the module reliability using the (MATHCAD.ll) software package.
Finally, outline of ground processing of telemetry data within the flight center is

given.
