THE RELATIONSHIP OF COMPLEXITY OF CORONARY ARTERY DISEASE AND COMPLEXITY OF PERIPHERAL ARTERIAL DISEASE
Alaa Ahmed Reyad Elkiey;
Abstract
SUMMARY
A
therosclerosis is a widespread, chronic progressive disease that mainly involves medium-sized arteries. It affects coronaries, cerebral arteries and peripheral arteries with the same risk factors. A well-known relation exists between PAD and CAD.
Many studies reported relation between complexity of CAD and complexity of PAD. The aim of our study was to measure the relation between CAD complexity using SYNTAX score and PAD complexity using TASC II score.
This study included 50 patients without known PAD who were referred for elective coronary angiography at Ain Shams University hospitals in the time period from August 2016 till July 2017.
Patients were subjected to thorough history taking, physical examination and laboratory investigations. Coronary angiography was performed to all patients, then SYNTAX score was calculated for every patient after coronary angiography using online calculator. Peripheral angiography was performed to all patients, then TASC II score was calculated for every patient after peripheral angiography.
In Our study there was a statistically significant difference between TASC II score categories and SYNTAX score categories concluding that patients with complex PAD had complex CAD. This finding suggested that PAD and CAD are different clinical manifestations of atherosclerosis and systemic pan vascular involvement is present in patients with complex lesions.(P-value 0.046).
