RISK ASSESMENT OF SOME PESTICIDES ON INFANT FOOD
Hoda Mohamed Refai Ahmed Mohamed;
Abstract
Pesticides are essential for agricultural and horticultural crops production. These pesticides act against insects, rodents, weeds which are harmful in agricultural or horticultural planting.. Basically, after spraying fruits or vegetables with pesticide, a period of 10 to 14 days is required to allow the chemical to degrade. However, the full degradation of pesticide is not always achieved. the remaining any pesticide residues in the foods especially in infant food exceeded Maximum residue levels (MRLs) led to cause a range of diseases and other problems .Therefore in the present study fresh vegetables and fruits as well as canned food were collected from different markets in Cairo, Egypt and monitored for any pesticide residue . The Quick, Easy, Cheap, Effective, Rugged, Safe (QuEChERS) method was used for extraction and preparation of food samples .Also 248 reference pesticides were used .High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and Gas-chromatography(GC) were used for analysis . Also, the residues of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and Aflatoxin M1 in Infant milk was determined.
I – Monitoring of pesticide residue in fresh vegetables, and fruits:
73 fresh vegetables and fruitswere divided into : 14 G. beans, 12 Squash, 9 Carrot, 7 Potato, 2 Sweet Potato, 8 Guava, 10 Orange and 11 Banana. The analysis results of these samples revealed that:
*100% of G.beans ,33% of Squash ,44%of Guava ,100$ of orange samples are contaminated with different pesticide residues whereas potato,S.potato and banana sample are free from any pesticide residues.
The levels of pesticide residues of Carbendazimin, Chloropyrifos, malathion, pirimicarb, propamocarb, diazinon, Omethoate in G.beans are higher thanMaximum residue levels (MRLs)( MRLs).
*The levels of pesticide residues; Chloropyrifosin a propamocarb, in Squah are higher than the maxinum residue levels (MRLs).
*The level of pesticide residue;Omethoate in carrot exceeded than MRLs
*The level of pesticide residues ;Chloropyrifos, Omethoate, profenofos, methomyl; L-cyhalothrin in guava are longer than MRLs
*The level of pesticide residues:Chloropyrifos,Omethoate, malathion; diazinonand imaazilil in orange are longer than MRLs
All samples are contaminated with Chloropyrifos
II -Monitoring of pesticide residue in canned food:
In canned baby food 49 samples were prepared and analyzed, and the results showed that:
*19 canned samples were contaminated with pesticide but the level of the pesticide residue in 5 samples are higher than MRLs
*The most pesticides found in 9 canned food is Chloropyrifos in and the level of this pesticide in three of them are longer than MRLs.
*Eight samples are contaminated with Carbendazim in where thelevel of these pesticide residues in five of them is longer than MRLs
*Six samples are contaminated with Malathion, with level ranged from 0.003 to 0.07 mg/kg,
*Three samples are contaminated with acetamiprid with ranged from 0.002 to 0.05 mg/kg only one of them is longer than MRL.
*Four samples are contaminated with profenofos with range from 0.02 t
