Abstract


Melasma is a common acquired hypermelanosis that primarly affects sun exposed areas in women. It is characterized by brown patches on the face, mainly on the malar prominincies and forehead, which are quite sharply demarcated. It occurs frequently during pregnancy, menopause, ovarian disorders, endocrinal disorders and in women using contraceptives.
