Prosthetic Management Of Patients With Some Genetic Disorders

Hany Riad Sabry Riad;

Abstract

This research was carried on ten Egyptian patients suffering from Ectodermal Dysplasia Syndromes. They were accertained from the out patient clinic of the Genetic department of the National Research Centre. Cairo.

These patient's being suffering from hypodontia which affected their chewing and facial appearance, required the construction of a prosthesis to restore function and esthetics.

After proper diagnosis of the cases, overdentures were constructed for all patients. They used their dentures for six months then they came back to evaluate the effect of their dentures on the overlying alveolar jaw bone using cephalometric radiography.
Six months later another cephalogram was done for each patient. The overdentures were taken from the patients and they were lined
with a soft liner, then regiven to the patients to use them for further six
months.
The last cephalogram was taken at the end of these six months. After accurate measurments of the bone height from the
cephalograms, it was found that there were bone resorption in both
groups, the first group with conventional overdentures and the second
group with soft lined overdentures, but the rate of bone resorption at the period of wearing the lined overdentures (second period) was markedly
less than from the first period.
