BITING BI I•IAVIOUIOF SOME BLOOID-SUCKING INSECTS AND ITS RELATION TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF ALLERGIC REACTIONS IN MAMMALIAN HOSTS

ASHRAF ABDALLA A WAD ABDALLA;

Abstract

In the present work an attempt has been made to study the relation between direct bites or injection with salivary gland extracts of Culex pipiens mosquito or Cimex lectulariu.\• bed hug as examples of blood-sucking insects, and the development or allergic reactions in mice. Experiments were done with laboratory colonies. Effect of single and repeated insect bites (or single and repeated injections with insect salivary gland extracts) on mice skin reactions, blood cells count include erythrocytes, white blood cells ( WBCs), dil'krcntial WBCs (ncutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, eosinophils and basophils), platelets, estimation of hemoglobin content and estimation of histamine compared with those for control (check) mice group (not exposed to insect bites or in.iL•ctions) were done. Analysis revealed that in case of mice groups that exposed to a single insect bite {or a single injection with insect salivary gland extracts), there is no significant difference in comparison with the control mice group. And in case of mice groups that exposed to double bites orthe same insect species (or double it:: .iections with the same insect salivary gland L'Xtral'ls). there is a sig11ilicult diiTcrL•ncc comparLd with tlw control mice. But there is no signi licant difference in case of mice groups that exposed to doubk bites or di llerent insects.
