REVAMPING OF UNIT -22 CAIRO OIL REFINING COMPANY CORC, MOSTOROD REFINERY PLANT FOR MAXIMIZATION OF LPG PRODUCTION
Mohamed Hamed Abdul-Gawad Hamed;
Abstract
LPG is considered the main fuel used for household's applications in Egypt and shortage in it
represents a critical crisis for economy. Increasing LPG production rate is a priority for Egypt.
In this thesis, unit producing Special LPG [unit 22 located at Cairo Oil Refining Company (CORC),
Mostorod plant] is studied to increase LPG production. Aspen HYSYS 8.3 and PRO II
8.0 simulation programs are used for simulation of the unit.
Different operating modes and conditions for production of Special LPG were studied.
Results showed that changing the recovery section from "absorber/absorber-de ethanizer" to
"absorber/absorber" would increase the recovery to more than 95% for Propane and Butanes.
Using a partial condenser in the first separation column at pressure profile 15/15.2 kg/cm2.g is
the optimum operating mode.
By decreasing lean oil flow rate from 7000 kg/hr to 5000 kg/hr the final production rate per year
will be increased by 81%
Increasing utility steam pressure will increase final production per year to more than 82%.
The proposed unit with proper conditions can be used for production of normal LPG within summer
specifications and winter specifications with high recovery.
