Abstract


esarean section is associated with complications in subsequent pregnancy, such as scar pregnancy with life threatening bleeding, placenta previa, placenta accreta, increta or percreta, dehiscence or uterine rupture.
Cesarean section can cause a defect or disruption of the myometrium at the site of the uterine scar, called a niche, which may be associated with abnormal uterine bleeding and other gynecological symptoms such as dysmenorrhoea, chronic pelvic pain, dyspareunia and secondary infertility. Large defects are associated with higher risk of complication than small defects.
Abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) is an alteration in the volume, pattern and or duration of menstrual blood flow and it is the most common reason of gynecological referrals.
This study was conducted at the Early Cancer Detection Unit of Ain Shams Maternity Hospital in the period from January 2016 to March 2017.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of cesarean section niche in patients complaining of unexplained abnormal uterine bleeding.
