MORPHOLOGICAL AND MORPHOMETRIC STUDIES ON SOME PARASITES INFECTING EGYPTIAN REPTILES

Abstract


The present study aimed to survey some of theprotozoan and
metazoan parasitesinfecting some reptile species in Egypt. Reptiles
were collected from five locations, Assiut , Luxor, Sohage , Aswan
and South Sinai deserts during the period from Septemper 2012 to
Septemper 2013.
The examined specimens assigned to seven different species
belonging to five families. These were Eumeces schneideri (family:
Scincidae) , Agama (Laudakia) stellio (family: Agamidae), Agama
(Trapelus) mutabilis (family: Agamidae), Chamaeleo chamaeleon
(family: Chamaeleonidae), Uromastyx aegyptius (family: Agamidae
), Varanus griseus (family: Varanidae) and Cerastes cerastes
(family: Viperidae ).
During the present investigation, the only protozoan parasite
recorded was Hepatozoonseurati, with a percentage of 8.84%
(13/147) in C. cerastes. From the recorded metazoan parasites, The
