EVOKED RESPONSES IN Anesthesia

Ahmed Mohamed Mukgtar;

Abstract

Sensory evoked potentials and electrical potentials generated in response to stimulation of peripheral nerve
or a cranial nerve. These potentials are thought to arise from action potentials and for graded postsynaptic potentials during the propagation of the electrical impulse from the periphery to the brain and can be recorded over the scalp• as- .well as at various sites along the anatomic pathway with the use of surface electrodes.

Although the generation of cerebral electrical potentials in response to peripheral nerve stimulation (sensory evoked potentials) has been recognized for many years, sensory evoked potentials have recently found clinical applications.

The most commonly used mode of SEPs are as follows: I. Somatosensory evoked potential (SSEP). •
. 2. Motor evoked potentials (MEP).
3. Auditory evoked potentials (AEP).
4. Visual evoked potential (YEP).
