EFFECT OF SOME FERTILIZER TREATMENTS AND HARVESTING DATES ON YIELD AND QUALITY OF ONIONS AND ITS RELATION TO EFFICIENCY OF EXPERIMENTAL DESIGNS

SOMAlA AHMED MOHAMED BARAKAT;

Abstract

Two field experiments were carried out during the two successive seasons of 199611997 and 199711998 at the Agricultural Experimintal Station of Benha, Kalubia grovernate, using cultivar onion Giza 20.

The aim of this investigation was to study the effect of some fertilizer treatments (N, P and K) and harvesting dates (preventing irrigation before harvest) on growth characters, i.e., vegetative growth, bulb characters, yield and its components, storageability and quality of onions. Relative contribution for growth characters to yield, i.e., stepwise multiple linear regression analysis and factor analysis were carried out. Experimental efficiency parameters was also investigated, i.e., soil heterogeneity index, plot size and number of replications.
