Abstract

The trend towards E. C. C. E. continues through the world, so that, E. C. C. .E has recently surpassed I. C. C. E. as the standard technique in cataract surgery. Although several advantages related to the retention of the posterior capsule have been responsible for this transition, include stabilizing the• intraocular lens as well as anterior segment structure, lower incidence of cystoid macular edema and aphakic retinal detachment. The technique is also commonly complicated by opacification of this structure 18% to 50% rate of capsular opacification has been reported after the
. extracapsular technique. The resultant decrease in visual acuity necessitates opening of the posterior capsule to clear vision in affected patients. This problem directed the attention of ophthalmologists to be familial with retained lens material inside the eye.
This study included a total of 200 eyes in 150 patients complaining of diminished visual acuity due to secondary cataract formation.
It studied the incidence of after cataract in relation to age and time of its appearance, sex, type of primaty cataract, type of primary cataract operation and type of after- cataract. • It also studied the different methods used for management of after -cataract and indications and
complications of each method.
