SOME HISTOCHEMICAL AND ULTRASTRUCTURAL STUDIES ON THE EFFECT OF TOBRAMYCIN (NEBCIN) ON THE PROXIMAL AND DISTAL CONVOLUTED '• TUBULES INTHE KIDNEY OF ALBINO RAT
AMAL AHMED ALI EL-SHEIKH;
Abstract
Tobramycin is a member of the aminoglycoside antibiotic group. It is the most active of all the aminoglycosides against gram-negative ba teria as pseudomonas aeruginosa. Also, it proved to have activity against proteus species, Escherichia coli, citrobacter species and providencia species.
The aim of the present work was to detect the potential nephrotoxic effect of tobramycin on the proximal and distal convoluted tubules histologically, histochemically and ultrastructurally in two different dosage regimen.
The present study was carried out on sixty adult male albino rats,. weighing from 170-200 gm. They were divided into four main groups:
Group 1: Formed of 10 rats being kept without any treatment and served as control for all experimental groups.
Group II (sham control): Consisted of 10 rats that were subdivided into two subgroups:
Subgroup (1): included Srats injected intraperitoneally with lml saline (Na cl, 0.9%) divided into three equal injections given every 8h and served as control for rats treated with tobramycin 3-times daily.
Subgroup (2): included 5 rats injected intraperitoneally with saline
1m1 once-daily. This group served as control for rats treated with tobramycin once daily.
