Abstract

Premature rupture of membranes occurs when membranes rupture before the onset of labour. PROM is a major obstetric problem and is responsible for significant maternaland fetalmorbidity

PHOM represents a classical case when a normal pregnancy becomes suddenly a high-risk one for the mother and the fetus/neonate. This complication has been and still considered of the most serious events

Premature rupture of the membranes (RPOM) continues to be a major complication, occurring in approximately 10% of all pregnancies.
One of the major problems complicating PROM is the occurrence of chorioamnionitis. Also PROM increases the risk of fetal distress
and operative delivery

Infection is thought to be the main cause leading to PROM through several mechanisms. Also smoking is one of the predisposing factors
of PROM.
