STUDIES ON THE THERMAL AND ION EXCHANGE PROPERTIES OF INSOLUBLE ACID SALTS OF SOME TETRAVALENT METALS

AHMED MOHAMED SOLIMAN;

Abstract

In the present thesis, the main objecti"l es are to prepare the two inorga!lic ion exchangers zirconium phosphate and hafnium phosphate in definite composition by reproducible method, studying both the physical and the chemical
proparaties as well as the investigation of exchange

proparties of siven radioactive nuclides,

Cs+ , Sr++ ,

Hg++,

++ Eu 3+, Gd 3+

and Am 3+

from different acid media on the

prepared zirconium phosphate.

This thesis consists of three main chapters:

Chapt r 1, the introduction, gives a general account on the classification of inorganic ion exchangers beside the chemical defintion of inorganic ion exchanger• with special emphasis on the acid salts of the tetravalent metals. Also it gives general account on solid-state reaction with special emphasis on the application of DTA and TGA in this type of reaction. A suitable survey related to the radiation and thermal stability of inorganic ion exchangers is 'presented, together with the structure and ion exchange properties of Zp.

Chapter 2, the experimental includes: The preparation procedures of the inorganic ion exchange materials.
