Abstract


This study was carried out on 99 pregnant women (37-40 weeks) admitted to Ain Shams University Hospital for Obstetrics and Gynecology Department and from the out patient clinic, from the beginning of the year 1998 to the end of the year 1999.

The study was conducted in the Special Care Unite of the Fetus in the Maternity Hospital of Ain Shams University.

The 99 studied cases included 30 nonna1 pregnant women and

69 diabetic pregnant. The diabetic group was subdivided into: 51 controlled diabetic and the other 18 were uncontrolled depending on the blood glucose level.

All cases were examined sonographically and a biophysical profile score was given for each case according to criteria described by Mauuing eta/ (1980).

Doppler Velocity waveforms were recorded from the mnbilical artery, descending aorta, middle cerebral artery and uterine artery and Doppler indices for each were recorded.

The fetal weight, one minute Apgar scoring, 5 minutes Apgar scoring and follow up for 24 hours to detect the development ofRDS were done to assess the fetal outcome.

All results were statistically studied and compared to each other and to fetal outcome.
