Some Applications of Chemical Sensors in Environmental and Industrial Analysis

Hisham Salah Mohammad;

Abstract

The studies presented in this dissertation. were designed to develop novel anton sensors and electrochemical methods. for the analysis of environmentally and industrially relevant species.

In the first chapter, a general introduction on potentiometry is introduced including theory and • principles, historical background, and classification of ion-selective potentiometric sensors. An introductory part on the . polyion sensors is also included. This part introduces an overview and the response principle of polyion sensors.

In the second chapter of this work, a new method for the assay of the polyanion, carrageenan, is introduced using the principal of polyion sensing recently developed and using both polyanion and polycation sensitive . membrane sensors with the cylindrical configuration. The levels of the food additive carrageenan were measured in different food samples and confirmed by recovery measurements.

In chapter three, a novel liquid polymeric membrane sensor was developed . for the analysis of anionic surfactants, based on the quaternary ammonium salt tridodicylmethyl-ammonium chloride.
