STUDY OF SOME OPPORTUNISTIC PARASITIC INFECTION IN IMMUNOCOMPROMISED HOST AND WATER POLIUTION

Abstract


An immunocompromised state may be brought about by debilitating diseases, malnutrition, malignancy and its treatment with chemotherapy and or radiotherapy. Patients may suffer from reactivated latent infections and opportunistic infections. Many protozoal and helminthic diseases cause potentially life threatening infections in patients with abnormal cell mediated immunity:

C.parvum, Cyclospora, I.bellj, microsporidia, E. hitolylica, G. Iamblia,T.gondii,and S.stercoralis .

This study was conducted on 150 immunocompromised hosts;

62 males and 88 females, 37 were under 20 years, 53 were between

20-45 years and 60 were above 45 years, divided into 4 groups: Group I included 30 malnourished infants and children. Group II included 15 patients under cortisone therapy.
Group III included 30 patients with uncontrolled diabetes mellitus and group IV included 75 patients with malignancy. Thirty apparently healthy individuals were choosen as control.

Cases were collected from Paediatric hospital, Neurology department Kasr El-Eini Cairo university, RIO, Oncology Institute and the Centre for Cancer management, Kasr El-Eini Cairo University.

All groups were subjected to clinical examination, stool examination by direct smear, concentration by either sedimentation or floatation techniques, staining smear by modified Ziehl-Neelsen,
