SALTER INNOMINATE OSTEOTOMY IN THE TREATMENT OF LEGG CALVE PERTHES DISEASE

Fayek Fouad Abdel Shahid;

Abstract

Legg - Calve - Perthes disease is an idiopathic osteonecrosis or avascular necrosis of the capital femoral epiphysis and the associated complications that occur accordingly in an immature growing child. This osteonecrosis is caused by an interruption of the capital femoral epiphysis blood supply. It is primarily a disorder that affects boys (4- 5 : 1} and is bilateral in about 10% of cases:•The clinical onset is between age 2 and 12 years with a mean of 7 years.

Deformity of the healed femoral head is the major factor in predisposing to the development of osteonecrosis of the hip joint in Perthes disease. Containment of the healing femoral head is a method of minimizing such a deformity. We use the innominate osteotomy as a method for improving the
containment of the femoral head within the acetabulum.
