Abstract

SUMMARY
P
rimary immunodeficiency disorders are a heterogenic group of inherited disorders of the immune system. They are uncommon conditions that require specialized immunologic services for diagnosis and management. These disorders involve one or more components of the immune system namely; the innate immune system (natural killer cells, phagocytic cells/neutrophils, and complement) and/or the adaptive immune system (T-cells and B-cells that mediate cellular and humoral immunity respectively).
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the lymphocyte subsets among infants and children with recurrent infection, especially among those with lymphopenia in order to recognize patients with primary immunodeficiency diseases.
The study included 30 children with recurrent or persistent infection. They were 16 males and 14 females their ages ranged between one month and 14 years. These cases were recruited from Children’s Hospital of Ain-Shams University during the period from February 2012 to October 2012.
