PREPARATION AND CHARACTERIZATION OF SOME β-DIKETONE HYDRAZONES DERIVATIVES AND THEIR METAL COMPLEXES WITH SOME RARE EARTH ELEMENTS
WESAM NADER EL-SAID MOHAMMED SALAMA;
Abstract
The thesis comprises three chapters: -
1) Chapter 1:
Comprises an in.troduction on the chemistry of lanthanides including a literature survey on coordination chemistry of, lanthanide ions, formation
constants of complex species. A literature survey is also given on P
diketonats complexes.
2) Chapter II:
Includes the material and reagents used, as well as tht experimentt1l techniques. It comprises details concerning the preparation of the starting organic compounds (Arylidines) phenylhydrazones, •and Schiff base phenyll1ydrazones complexes, solutions; instruments used, working procedures.
3) Chapter III:
Includes the results anci discussion:
a)- Physical properties, elemental analyses and infrared bands of Knovenagel condensates.
b)- I.R, 1 H NMR chemical shifts, physical prope1ties, elemental analyses, mass spectra and the relative abundances for the ligands.
c)- The. physical properties, magnetic susceptibilities, elemental analyses, I.R spectra and thennogravimetric analysis of the complexes of Sc, Y, La, Ce ions with ligands.
d)- Infrared spectra of the investigated•ligands were scanned as KBr discs • and the characteristic bands were assigned to their vibrational modes. The results indicate that all ligands act as bidentate chelating agents to fonn I: I (M:L) complexes. •
e)- The geometry around the central metal nuclei are ranging from octahedral of coordination number 6 (Sc(III)) to pentagonal bipyramid of coordination number 7 geometries (Y(III), La(III) and Ce(I!I)).
