Abstract

This thests concerns with the mcst important device used to iden the transmission bandwidth in a wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) Optical Comm nication S stem. M4ltiplexer and demultiplexer are used to collect and separate twc or mere ovtical wavelengths on a single rr:ultimc.de cr a single-mcde optica_1. fiber. Two di-fferent optical wc:velengths located at 665 nmJ and 820 nm are used c:s carriers. Our selective multi/derr:ultiplexer device has been built in the laboratory using single GRIN-rod lens, interference edge filter, mirror, and triple fiber array. The device as mcunted on a simplified experimental base plate to offer facilities to studb the device for its parameters using non-destructive technique. The gecmetrical parameters of the device have been studied to ell understa d its performc:nce. The important dispersion relation, namely the variation of the focal length cf the GRIN-rod lens with the wavelength, is investigated. This dispersion is one cf the loss sources in the optical
multiwavelength, transmissio .

Also, the gaps between both the mirror and the interference filter, and the end-face cf the used GRIN-rod
lens hav been studied. Special err:phasis-was given to

several situations of the optical fiber array referred to
