Effect of different nanoparticle dopants on Al2O3 as a radiation dosimeter

Abeer Salah Kamal Ismail;

Abstract

Chromia-alumina nanocomposites containing various compositions of chromium oxide were prepared by sol-gel method using octadecylamine as controlling template agent and all the composites samples are in nano dimension. Chromium oxide plays a primordial effect on the size and the crystalline structure of alumina nanoparticles. It is clear from our experimental results that increasing in chromia contents is associated with pronounced reduction of crystalline sample. More open structure with large number of cavities embedded between particles is observed. The structure–property relationship observed in the present study is useful to make tailor made α-Al2O3 with nanoparticle dimensions.

Octadecylamine has been involved as a pore and structure directing agent to manipulate nanoparticles through a simple and environmentally friendly process.
This dispersion prevents the crystallites from further growing during the progress of calcinations that lead to stabilize aluminum oxide nanoparticles in nanodimensions.
