THE EFFECTIVENESS OF SOME LANGUAGE LEARNING STRATEGIES ON DEVELOPING LANGUAGE SKILLS OF EGYPTIAN SECONDARY STAGE STUDENTS

Abstract


This study attempted to investigate the effectiveness of training on some language learning strategies on developing Reading and Writing skills of Egyptian secondary stage students. Literature was reviewed and II Language learning strategies were chosen.
A language learning strategy progrrumne was designed.A random

srunple of I 00 secondary stage students were chosen, 50 acted as an experimental group and 50 as a control group. A Pre-post Reading and Writing achievement test, and a pre-post awareness questionnaire were used. Scores of the two groups on the test were analyzed. The results of the study showed that there were significant differences between the mean scores attained by the experimental group and those attained by the control group in the Post-test in favour of the experimental group.
Results also showed that there were significant differences between the mean scores attained by the experimental group and those attained by the control group in their awareness in favour of the experimental group. Results indicated the effectiveness of the strategy training progra1mne in developing Reading and Writing skills of secondary stage students and in raising their awareness of the different lru1guage learning strategies and their use.Based on the resuits of the study, recommendations and suggestions for further research were presented.
