Abstract


Objecth'es: Determination of plasma endothelin-1 levels and assessment of its role in the development and deterioration of lupus nephritis.
A1etlwds: Twenty tivc patients with lupus nephritis were enrolled in this study. together with 15 healthy children. matched lOr age and sex. served as the control group.
The lupus nephritis patients were classiticd into 2 group: group A. those with hypcrtcnsion( 16 patients) and group B. thost' without hyp:rtcnsion(9 patients). Plasma ET-1 level \Vas done to all patients.
Re.\'ltlt.\•: Plasma ET-1 levels were signilicantly higher in patients with lupus nephritis than in the control group. and were also significantly higher in group A patients
compared with group 13.
Couclusiou: Plasma ET-1 levels correlate with the grade or lupus nephritis and can be used as a measure of its severity.
