A Clinical Study of the Effect of Bioactive Glass and Bioabsorbable Barrier Membrane on Healing and Bone Formation Around Immediate Implant
Mohamed Abd El-Wanis Mohamed El-Hady;
Abstract
This study was carried out to evaluate single tooth replacement with dental implants inserted in to fresh extraction socket in single rooted mandibular teeth
Ten patients were participated in this study and was divided into two groups
;group in which immedi;:tte implantation was done covered with bioactive glass and collagen membrane and the other without bone graft or a membrane
The surgical steps was based on careful and gentle handling of the tissue with minimal tissue damage in a clean and aseptic operating environment and a traumatic technique
The patients recovered well after surgery and no complications were noted at any time during the observation period except for only two implant which was lost during the healing period in one patient
Clinical evaluation was performed using: Plaque index, bleeding index, probing depth and mobility of implant.
Radiographic evaluation was performed using standardized periapical radiographs to evaluate the surrounding bone at intervals 1,3,6 month after implant placement
Non significant plaque accumulation was observed , non significant
Reduction of gingival inflammation, Non significant increase in probing depth around the implants in the study group and non significant decrease in probing depth in the control group.
Radiographic evaluation revealed no peri-implant radiolucency around all implants ,and the marginal bone loss around the implant was minimal.
There were a significant decrease in vertical defect depth in the study group after 3 &6 months and significant increase in bone density in the study group after 6 months.
