ROLE OF HELICOBACTER PYLORI 1 IN SYMPTOMATIC CASES OF REFLUX ESOPHAGITIS

Abstract


Despite the expanding concern on the role of Helicobacter pylori in the pathogenesis of upper gastrointestinal diseases including duodenal ulcer, gastric ulcer, gastritis and gastric carcinoma, its role in the exceedingly common gastroesophageal reflux disease is not yet thoroughly addressed.


The objective of this work was to investigate the possible relation between H.pylori infection and GERD, as well as to compare the effect of drug therapy aiming at eradication of H.pylori.


Thirty patient's with GERD 23 males 7 females were randomly grouped into two groups (group I and group II). Group I (n=14) were divided into two equal groups, group Ia (7 cases H.pylori + ve) and group lb (7 cases H.pylori +ve) by doing an upper endoscopy, taking a biopsies, testing for H.pylori by the rapid urease test.
