Abstract

Ambulatory anaesthesia has become recognized as an / anaesthetic subspeciality, expansion of this speciality is likely to continue with the growth in minimally-invasive surgical procedures.

The ability to control postoperative pain may make the difference between performing a given procedure on an inpatient or ambulatory basis.

Tramadol, an analgesic deriving part of its effect via opioid agonist activity, might provide postoperative pain relief with minimal
risk of respiratory depression.

Meperidine is an opioid agonist, binds to !l-and K-opioid /

receptors and is commonly used in treatment of postoperative pain.

Nalbuphine is an opioid kappa-agonist, mu-antagonist, 0.9 times as potent as morphine. It has several advantages over other commonly used narcotic analgesics, little effect on the cardiovascular system and a lower incidence of nausea and vomiting.

This study was carried out on 60- ASA I or II patients scheduled for elective surgery in Alexandria Main University Hospital.
