A STUDY ON HARVESTING MECHANIZATION OF SOYBEAN CROP

MOHAMED ABDALLAH IBRAHIM HASSAN;

Abstract

Field experiments were carried out at the research farm of Rice Mechanization Center, Meet El-Deeba, Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate during harvesting soybean crop in the agricultural season of 2003.
The main objectives of the present study may be summarized as follows:
1-To study soybean grain losses due to the different functional parts of combine harvester (Yanmar-CA760) and Turkish threshing machine.
2-To study soybean grain damage due to the screw drum in combine
harvester (Yanmar-CA760).
3-To evaluate the performance of combine harvester (Yanmar-CA760) and to determine the optimum operating conditions.
4-To evaluate the Turkish threshing machine and to determine the optimum operating conditions.
5-To choose the most efficient and economic system for harvesting and threshing soybean crop.
The variables under study were as follows:
1- When using combine harvester (Yanmar-CA760):
a) Four different levels of forward speeds 1.4, 1.9, 2.6 and 3.1 kmlh.
b) Four different levels of cylinder speeds 9.87 (290), 10.89 (320), 12.59 (370), 13.95 (410) m/s (r.p.m).
c) Four different levels of grain and straw moisture contents as follows:
22.41, 18.50, 14.96, 12.14 and 40.52, 31.34, 20.50, 14.82%, respectively.
2- When using Turkish threshing machine:
a) Four different levels of feed rates 0.2, 0.3, 0.4 and 0.5 kg/s.
b) Four different levels of cylinder speeds 11.99 (327), 14.84 (405), 17.96
(490), 20.89 (570) m/s (r.p.m).
c) The same above mentioned four different levels of grain and straw moisture contents.
The obtained results may be summarized as follows:

5.1. Field performance of combine harvester (Yanmar-CA760):
5.1.1. Combine losses:
5.1.1.1. Total header loss, %:

For all grain moisture contents, increasing the combine forward speed tends to increase the total header loss. On the other hand, for all combine forward speeds, decreasing grain moisture content tends to increase the total header loss. The lowest value of total header loss (1.102%) was obtained at combine forward speed of 1.4 kmlh and grain moisture content of 22.41%.
