Ahmed Abd El Fattah Hussien Habib;
Abstract
Trigeminal neuralgia is a rare disease with an overall prevalence of 0.1–0.2 per 1,000 and
an incidence ranging from about 4–5/100,000/year. It is characterized by paroxysmal
electric pain in the trigeminal distribution on one side of the face; trigger areas that, when
stimulated, bring on this classic type of pain; periods of remission and exacerbation; pain
that is typically more severe in the morning and absent during sleep; and periodic pain
relief when treated with an adequate trial of carbamazepine
