Adenosine Bedside Test for Diagnosis of Dual AV-Nodal Physiology in Patients With Supraventricular Tachycardia

Rania Samir Ahmed;

Abstract

Supraventricular tachycardias are common clinical disorder that tend to affect relatively healthy adult popoulation.

Atrioventricular nodal reentrant tachycardia represents the most common form of paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardias.

Many drugs with differing antiarrhythmic actions have been used with success in the termination of episodes ofPSVT.

One of the most reliably used drugs was adenosine which has proven high efficacy in terminating acute episodes of PSVT.

Depending on the electrophysiological properties of adenosine, it was considered not only a remarkable therapeutic drug, but also as a valuable diagnostic tool.

This study was planned to demonstrate the possibility of the use of adenosine in a bed-side test using surface ECG for the diagnosis and selection of patients with typical AVNRT, from patients with recurrent episodes of supraventricular tachycardia.
