Removal of hazardous Pollutants from Industrial Waste Solutions Using Membrane Techniques
Yasser Tawfik Mohamed Selim;
Abstract
The removal of hazardous pollutants from industrial waste solutions is of essential demand for both scientific and industrial field. The present work includes detailed studies on the possible use of membrane technology especially liquid emulsion membrane for the removal of hazardous pollutants such as; cadmium, cobalt, lead, copper and uranium from different industrial waste solution This research can be applied for mixed waste problems.
The work carried out in this thesis is presented in three main
chapters, namely introduction, experimelllal and results and discussion
The first chapter is the introduction, which includes the aim of work: types of pollution and highlights on the chemist1y of the investigated elements; copper, cobalt, lead, cadmium and uranium. Also it is devoted to throw more light onto liquid emulsion membrane (LEM), stability of LEM in aqueous medium and LEM permeation mechanism. This chapter also includes some concepts and literature survey on the mathematical modeling of LEM permeation, literature survey on the extraction of metals using LEM, and finally, some industrial applications of LE.lvl techniques.
Chapter two includes the experimental part. In this part detailed outlines are given on the chemicals and the instruments used as well as the analytical techniques. The preparation and the stability of LEM and the permeation procedures were presented in detail.
The third chapter deals with the results and discussion. This chapter is divided into two main parts. The first part is concerned with the removal of uranium and copper ions from matrix containing; Cd, Pb, Co, Cu and U in diluted nitric acid medium. To select the suitable condition for the permeation of the investigated elements through the
