Abstract

Orthodontists are interested primarily in treatment of malocclusion. The correction of a malocclusion represents the end product of their entire goal. However, in order to treat their patients successfully, orthodontists must fully understand the problems with which they are confronted. Before initiating orthodontic treatment, orthodontists must reach some tentative conclusions, and this constitutes the formulation of a diagnosis ( Sublenly, 1970 ).
Diagnosis, treatment planning, treatment timing and treatment management are closely related parts of an orthodontist's concern for the patient, and each plays a major role in the service rendered ( Merifield et al, 1994 ). The crucial factor in orthodontic treatment planning is correct diagnosis ( Ozbek, 1994 ). The use of cephalometric and dental morphologic characteristics is becoming increasingly popular in studying the variation and differences between various groups and tribal isolates (Kuzma and Zwemer, 1968 ).
Cephalometry IS a radiographic technique for abstracting the human head into a geometric scheme. It is mostly used to aid treatment planning and to evaluate treatment results ( Moyers,
1988 ).
Case analysis or diagnosis has and always will be a maJor factor in detennining the success of orthodontic therapy. Cephalometric X-ray has become a routine procedure taught through
