Abstract
Nagwa Abd EI-Ghany Mohamed. Evaluation of Some Asparagus Cultivars (Asparagus officinalis L.). Published for Master of Science-Ain Shams University, Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Horticulture, 1995.
This study was carried out at the Strawberry and non Traditional Horticultural Crops Research Station, South Tahreer, Behera Governorate during the two successive seasons, 1992-1993 and 1993-
1994.
The object of this work was to evaluate five asparagus cultivars namely, Jersey Giant, Brocks Imperial, UC 157, Gynlim and Mary Washington regarding yielding ability and spears characteristics.
Results indicate that two cultivars i.e. Jersey Giant and Brocks Imperial can be considered as promising cultivars. These cultivars showed high yielding ability, earliness and produced spears of good quality. Moreover, they showed low percent of natural infection with rust disease which indirectly affects the yield of asparagus.
