A COMPARATIVE STIJDY OF THE EFFICIENCY OF SOME MAIZE TFSIERS FOR EVALUATION A NUMBER OF WHITE MAIZE INBRED LINES AND THEIR COMBINING ABILITY UNDER DIFFERENT ENVIRONMENTAL CONDffiONS

Hatem El-Hamadey Mosa;

Abstract

The present investigation was carried out at Sakha Agricultural Research Station during the three successive seasons of 1997, 1998 and 1999.

The main objectives of this study were obtained the information about, genetic behavior of groups ofwhite inbred lines of maize through line x tester analysis for grain yield, under different environments, to identifY the best type of tester for evaluating the inbred lines, identify highly lines set and lower lines set in general combining ability acd evaluate each set in their diallel crosses under different environments to compare between them for plant and ear characters, determine the optimum environmental condition suitable to perform high grain yield and other desired plant characters and to identify the superior top crosses and single crosses. In 1997 early summer season, the sixty four inbred lines derived from different sources were top crossed with four testers of different genetic base namely, SClO and SC122, TWC321 and TWC watania-1.
