Realization of NIS (National Institute for Standards) Viscosity Scale for the Third Time at Different Temperature Ranges

Abstract

The National Institute for Standards (NIS) was established in 1963 by a Government Decree under the Ministry of Scientific Research. It is the highest technical authority for metrology in Egypt. Its function is to create the foundations of scientific, technical and legal metrology. NIS realizes and disseminates the units of physical quantities according to the International System of units which was established in 1960. The realization of the units of physical quantities and the foundation of the whole metrology system is NIS task. This task requires a measuring technique of high precision and extensive research work.

This thesis illustrates the realization of the viscosity scale at National Institute for Standard (NIS) as it is one of its responsibilities. The (NIS) viscosity scale is based on an internationally accepted value of water (1.0035 mm2/s at 20oC). The scale is realized with the help of several capillary viscometers using the step-up procedure, and a high stability temperature bath.
