Effect Of Two Different Acrylic Base Materials On The Stresses Induced On Single Mandibular Midline Implant Supporting Overdenture (Three Dimensional Finite Element Analysis)
Asmaa Mahmoud Abd EL Azeem;
Abstract
This current in vitro study aimed to evaluate and compare the effect of using conventional heat cured and flexible acrylic resin complete overdenture bases on the stresses induced on single midline mandibular implant supporting structure and posterior denture supporting area using three dimensional finite element analysis .
In this study two solid 3D models were constructed.
Model 1(M1): where one implant was inserted in the midline of the mandible and conventional heat cured acrylic resin denture base was used.
Model 2(M2) : where one implant was inserted in the midline of the mandible and flexible acrylic resin denture base was used .
The geometrical model was created manually using commercial 3-D modeling package( Inventor version 8) this software enables users to produce accurate 3D models to aid in designing, visualizing and simulating products before they are built. Using inventor to make 3D model of the overdenture.
The loading protocol was bilateral masticatory compressive loads of 100 N that was applied to the overdenture parallel to the longitudinal axes of the implants. Load was directed separately toward the central fossa in the first molar region of each overdenture.
The stress induced in the bone around and within the implants were collected, tabulated and finally arranged for analysis.
Stresses was higher over implant and cap complex in model 1 (hard denture base ) than in model 2(flexible denture base) ,while stresses over the mucosa found to be less in model 1than in model 2.
