Abstract


Normallevels ofbothsystolicanddiastolicblood pressureareparticularlyimportantforthe efficientfunction of vitalorganssuchas the heart, kidneys,brainandfor overallhealthandwellbeing.


Raisedblood pressureis one of the leadingriskfactorsfor globalmortality andisestimatedtohavecaused7% of diseaseburdenin2010and9.4million deaths.


Raisedbloodpressureisamajorcardiovascularriskfactor. Ifleftuncontrolled, hypertensioncausesstroke,myocardial infarction, cardiac failure,renalfailure,dementiaand blindness,causing humansufferingand imposing severe financialandserviceburdenson health systems.


Normaladultblood pressure is definedasa systolic blood pressureof 120mm Hganda diastolicbloodpressureof 80 mmHg.Hypertensionis definedasasystolicbloodpressure equaltoor above140mmHgand/ordiastolicblood
pressureequaltoor above90mmHg.


Theaimofthestudywas tomeasuretheprevalenceof hypertensionanditsriskfactorsamongresidentsof a village inMenoufiagovernorateandtoexaminethequality oflife among the studypopulationinthesame village.


A cross sectional designconducted inMeetElMozevillage in ShebinEl Kom, Menoufia, 90km northwest Cairo in delta.
