Abstract


Interleukin-6 is a multifunctior al cytokine that plays a central role in

the acute phase of inflammation seen after infection.


The present study involved 65 patients suffering from infection of postoperative wounds, bum wounds & diabetic foot, as well as, 10 healthy volunteers as control.
Bacteriological examination of the infected wounds reveal that S. aureus was the most common Gram-positive isolate (23.1%), while Ps.
aeruginosa was the most common Gram-negative isolate (21.7%).. Serum JL-

6 level was elevated in all patients with infected wounds regardless the type
I
of wound or the causative organisms.
