BALANCE OF SOME TRACE ELEMENTS IN SOIL AND PLANT UNDER POLLUTED CONDITIONS
Mostafa Helmy EL-Sayed •;
Abstract
Three pot experiments were carried out under greenhouse conditions at Soil, Water and Environment Res. lnst., Giza Governorate during growing seasons 1994-95 and 1995-96. The first experiment was performed using a pure sand culture technique to determine phytotoxicity of both Cd and Ni for i:)ean and barley plants. The second one was conducted, using soil pre-irrigated with wastewater for different periods of time (0, 5, 30 and 76 yrs) and
11 treated with different concentration levels of Cd2 ' and Ni2', to
investigate the bioavailability of both the concerned elements fractions in the soil as wellas their balance with some nutrients (i.e., Zn and Cu) in the plant tissues. Whereas the third one was also carried . out using only the soil which was pre-irrigated with wastewater for 76 yrs and treated with superphosphate at different concentrations to study the influence of phosphatic fertilization on
the accumulation of the studied elements in the plant tissues under
two levels of Cd2
or Ni2'.
